Plasma - 99.9% of the universe is made up of the stuff. On Earth, it takes
the form of fire and lightning, and is produced in plasma spheres and plasma TV's. Some day, it may
even make spacecraft shields and lightsabers possible.
HoverTech's Plasmagnetic Levitation Theory uses a UV laser to produce an electrically conductive
beam of plasma through
a process known as
photoionization. By spreading the beam into a cylinder, it is possible to create current loops
in the plasma through
electromagnetic induction.
The device levitates by the magnetic repulsion between the induction/repulsion coil and the
induced magnetic field according to
Lenz's Law. A minimum of three units is required for stability. Propulsion, braking and
steering is accomplished by adjusting the force vector of each unit.
Now you can demonstrate Plasmagnetic Levitation using commonly available off-the-shelf components.
